Frameless Shower Screen Installation, Done Right.
There are many products and places that sell kit shower screens across Australia.
Just because you can buy these products, doesn’t mean that when you install these screens, they comply with the Australian safety standards.
The term mechanical fix implies that the screen is mechanically secured to the structure /wall.
This is usually with a hole thru the glass and fixed to the wall.
Something like a SB50 wall bracket

When looking at the cost of a screen, this way does add some costs (holes drilled in the glass & the brackets) but surely your family’s safety is worth that?
Using silicone only for the sealing and to stop the water escaping.
There seems to be a issue with the warehouse screen suppliers, or big hardware companies that sell screens to the public
They try to inform the clients it’s just a matter of attaching a few clips

Holding the glass in place with a thumb screw and silicone the join
Or using a wall channel relying on the silicon for strength or the rubber gasket.

The issue with relying on silicone for strength, is that most people don’t buy a construction high strength silicone as they are more expensive. Also the silicon (if you read on a tube) only has a life expectancy of approximately 10 years.
This time frame is greatly reduced further when the silicone is subjected to continual cleaning products, like shampoo’s conditioners & abrasive cleaners. The results are a disaster waiting to happen.
I have lost count how many times we get called for a screen repair, when the door has either slipped out over night and shattered on the floor. Or when someone is naked and about to open the door. it slips out from the wall channel, and hits the floor shattering all over and covering the occupant in broken glass
